ROAD TRIP TIME
Is your vehicle kit prepared?
Now that you are in the rural parts of the country you will probably have to drive farther for any destination. You got yourself and the family ready to go, hit the road and your navigator reaches for the map. Oops forgot the map, that’s alright just rely on the GPS unit, maybe that’s not so okay in some rural settings.
Oh no wrong turn!!
Sometimes the shortest GPS route might not be the best one. I’ve met up with some people in pretty fancy cars, on the back roads 30 miles from the nearest paved road. All because they let the GPS tell them which route to take and never looked at a map.
Oh well, so you’re a few miles off track, that’s okay, let’s get on with our road trip. Now the kids are getting restless and hungry. Did you pack them something to occupy their time, because let’s face it even if you are enthralled by the scenery the kids might not be. What about snacks to eat? You should always have some kind of food and water with you when traveling the highways or the back roads.
Expect delays!!
Sometimes the road trip to town even if it is 50 miles can turn into an all-day project. You should always expect the unexpected and plan accordingly. Breakdowns, flat tire, road construction are just a few of the things that can make that road trip even longer.
What’s a Vehicle Emergency Kit
So what do you do if you haven’t prepared a vehicle emergency kit? What’s that you ask? Well a long time ago I learned that even just an hour’s drive can become a real hassle if you aren’t prepared. I created a vehicle emergency kit check list for you to use. Some of the items might not fit your situation but this is a great starting place.
You might live in an area where it never snows so there are a few items pertaining to the cold that you might leave out of your kit, and a few other’s you might want to add in.
Your car should have a jack and lug wrench to change a flat tire with, so I didn’t include these on the list for you, but please check to make sure they are in there before you leave your house.
- Just a side note here, be sure to check the air in your spare tire before you leave home so there are no surprises out on the road!
Get your kit ready!
Ok now it’s time for you to get yourself out there find a good sturdy box or bag to use for your kit. Sure hope this helps you be prepared for your next road trip. Have fun! Talk to you soon.
