My hobby is photography, I love picking up my camera and snapping photos. I mostly do landscape photography, but I do have a few, ok so maybe more than just a few, shots of my favorite subjects, my granddaughters! Don’t get me wrong I have lots of hobbies but photography is my all-time favorite, for two particular reasons:
- It lets me get out and enjoy the back roads, I do take pictures when I am in the towns or cities but I prefer the wide open spaces, traveling down the dirt road, feeling the wind blowing my hair, the sun on my face… the grit in my teeth, oops sorry I got a little off track there for a minute. The most amazing part of being out in the wide open country is the majestic scenery you never get to see when you confine yourself to the city. Whether it’s in the spring when the streams are just starting to run and the flowers are starting to show their glorious colors, or the summer when everything shimmers in the sunshine. How about standing on a mountain side just to see the splendid colors when autumn has taken over and the leaves are changing into amazing shades of gold and red. We certainly can’t forget about winter, I love seeing in the early morning, a valley with miles and miles of untouched white glistening snow covered ground and the mountains standing guard, what an amazing scene. Cold, yes. But the scenery is worth it!
- When I got married my husband and I would go for a drive in the hills and I would say stop I need to get a picture, he would stop and just look at me and say what could there possible be here to take a picture of? I wasn’t deterred I just kept snapping pictures and then when we would get home and I would upload the photos. When I showed the pictures to my husband he was amazed and said “where was that at I didn’t see anything like that”. Over the many years we have been together he has learned to look at the world in a different light. Now when we go for a drive he is always stopping and saying wow did you see that or look over there! I love being able to share my view of the world through my photos. I am by no means an expert photographer, but I have a passion for capturing a little of the world’s beauty in my pictures.
I had a friend tell me one time that if she just had a camera like mine she could take good pictures too! The picture isn’t because of the camera, it is because of how you see what you are looking at. Sometimes rather than just standing directly in front of a tree to take its picture, move just a bit to the side and see the tree in a whole new light.
